This is a recreation of a deleted Post I unfortunately got rid of in September or October thinking it would have been outdated, like the one of the 2nd of January 2025 about the riots in France. For the second time this year, I deleted something relevant ; but I fortunately kept the .odt, .pdf and image files for this dream that I had on the 31st of December 2024 almost a full year before these events.

On 9th of December 2025, a case of bovine dermatosis was declared in a farming in the Ariège department in France, recquiring, according to the French government, the slaughtering of 208 cows on the 12th of December. The night before, this resulted in tensions between the gendarmerie and a gathering of hundreds of farmers opposing the fate of the cattle at the farming in Ariège, involving disproportionate use of force with armored vehicles, stun grenades and tear gas. Calls for general blockade across the country by the Confédération Paysane and other organizations followed to launch and multiply protests against the radical measure condemning entire cattles no matter the amount of positive cases, may it be just one like what occured in Ariège. On the 13th and 14th of December’s weekend, blockades of highways and gatherings of farmers on roundabouts started in target areas, and it looks like the events will keep unfolding for days and weeks. One gathering even featured workers playing dead, but it sadly reflects the hardships of the sector having to comply with absurd bureaucratic measures alongside globalization politics in regards to imports from other countries sometimes with questionable sanitary situations or ethics, encouraged by pacts such as the Mercosur.

Earlier this year on 29th of June, a first outbreak was detected in Chambéry in the Savoie department, and if the situation ignited during the Summer, the French government ignored requests from farmers to expand cattles vaccinations in 3 South-Western departments this Fall in order to control the spread of the illness, according to the website indicated above. The disease itself was imported from Africa about 10 years ago.

Fortunately, the disease in question isn’t transmissible to humans and has a ~1% lethality rate, but it looks like the cow with « white tumors on it’s face » indicated this particular outbreak, perhaps depicted by « dead people » around me in the dream. The cow in the dream was also very emaciated (that’s why I thought it was ill when I first saw it) and it’s one of the symptoms of the disease in addition to the main ones.

I remember that I wanted to rename the Post « Bovine Disease » instead of « Cow Illness » but it’s a small detail and I’ll reuse the original title here.
